A family based in Southbank is seeking an experienced maternity nurse for a 6-month nightly contract starting in May 2026. This is a self-employed role requiring a highly competent professional with strong newborn and night-routine expertise. The baby will be formula-fed.

Working Hours

7:00 pm – 7:00 am (12 hours/night)

• First 3 months: 6 nights/week (72 hours/week)

• Following 3 months: 5 nights/week (60 hours/week)

Salary

£20–£25 gross/hour (self-employed)

• First 3 months: approx. £1,440–£1,800 gross/week

• Next 3 months: approx. £1,200–£1,500 gross/week

Role Overview

The maternity nurse will provide full overnight newborn care, manage all formula-feed preparations, support parents with routines, and ensure the newborn’s safety and comfort through the night. The role requires a calm, organised professional with strong expertise in newborn sleep and feeding schedules.

Main Responsibilities

• Overnight newborn care

• Implementing sleep and feeding routines

• Monitoring baby’s wellbeing throughout the night

• Supporting parents with newborn guidance and routine establishment

• Maintaining a hygienic, calm night environment

Maternity/Newborn Duties

• Formula preparation and sterilisation

• Night feeds (fully formula-fed)

• Settling and resettling after feeds

• Nappy changes and soothing

• Monitoring sleep patterns and adjusting routines as needed

• Keeping detailed night logs for parents

Child-related Housekeeping

• Cleaning and sterilising bottles

• Organising newborn essentials for the night

• Keeping the nursery tidy

Requirements

• Proven maternity nurse experience (5 years) (newborns)

• Strong expertise with formula-fed newborns

• Strong knowledge of sleep and feeding routines

• Up-to-date Paediatric First Aid

• Enhanced DBS

• Self-employed status

• Excellent communication and routine-building skills

• Ability to work independently at night
