A family based in Wandsworth, SW18, is looking for an experienced French- or English-speaking Live-Out Maternity Nurse to support them with the care of their 8-week-old baby. This is a temporary daytime position for an initial period of three months. The family is looking for a qualified, calm and knowledgeable professional who can establish a good routine, support the baby’s sleep and provide practical guidance and reassurance to the parents during the newborn stage.

Child

  • One baby aged 8 weeks.

Working Hours

Option 1

  • Monday to Thursday
  • 8:00am – 6:00pm
  • 40 hours per week

Option 2

  • Monday to Thursday
  • 8:00am – 8:00pm
  • 48 hours per week

Contract

  • Temporary position (3 months).
  • Live-Out.
  • Self-Employed Contract.

Salary

Option 1 (40 hours)

  • £25–£30 gross per hour.
  • Approximately £1,000–£1,200 gross per week.

Option 2 (48 hours)

  • £25–£30 gross per hour.
  • Approximately £1,200–£1,440 gross per week.

Start Date

  • ASAP.

Role Overview

The family is looking for a qualified Live-Out Maternity Nurse to provide daytime support during the baby’s first months. The mother is currently breastfeeding, and the successful candidate will work alongside her to establish a consistent daily routine, encourage healthy sleep habits and support the baby’s overall wellbeing. The baby currently finds it difficult to settle when placed in the cot, so experience with gentle settling techniques and newborn sleep is essential. The family home is set over several floors, therefore the candidate must be confident carrying the baby safely when using the stairs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Establish a structured daily routine.
  • Support healthy newborn sleep habits.
  • Implement gentle settling techniques.
  • Work alongside the breastfeeding mother.
  • Monitor the baby’s wellbeing and development.
  • Provide practical guidance and reassurance to the parents.
  • Encourage age-appropriate sensory stimulation.
  • Promote a calm and nurturing environment.

Maternity Nurse Duties

  • Provide full care of the baby during working hours.
  • Support breastfeeding routines.
  • Prepare bottles if required.
  • Sterilise bottles and feeding equipment.
  • Change nappies.
  • Bathe and dress the baby.
  • Monitor feeds, naps and daily routines.
  • Implement age-appropriate sleep routines.
  • Soothe and settle the baby using gentle techniques.
  • Keep a record of feeds, naps and daily observations if requested.
  • Encourage early developmental activities.
  • Ensure the baby’s comfort, safety and wellbeing at all times.

Child-Related Housekeeping

  • Sterilise bottles and feeding equipment.
  • Keep the nursery clean and organised.
  • Baby laundry.
  • Organise baby clothes and supplies.
  • Clean and maintain baby equipment.
  • Keep all child-related areas tidy.
  • No deep cleaning.

Health & Safety

  • Carry the baby safely when using the stairs.
  • Ensure the baby is secure at all times when moving between floors.
  • Follow current safe sleep guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
  • Adhere to current newborn health and safety recommendations.

Requirements

  • Qualified Maternity Nurse (essential).
  • Additional newborn qualifications are highly desirable, such as Newborn Care Specialist, Sleep Training Consultant, Infant Sleep Coach or similar.
  • Proven experience caring for newborn babies.
  • Excellent knowledge of newborn care, feeding routines and sleep development.
  • Confident supporting breastfeeding families.
  • Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
  • Enhanced DBS.
  • Excellent contactable references.
  • Calm, patient and reassuring approach.
  • Physically confident carrying a newborn safely on stairs.
  • Available to start ASAP.
